Governor of Puerto Rico recommends Justo González as interim director of PREPA
(November 17, 2017 – La Fortaleza, San Juan) The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, recommended engineer Justo González as interim director of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).
The governor said that "given the vacancy in the executive direction of PREPA, I am recommending to its Governing Board the appointment of engineer Justo González as interim director of the public utility. With this designation, a process of evaluating the best talent available—both within and outside of Puerto Rico—will begin, to proceed with an appointment to the position of executive director of PREPA. I trust that this process will be completed as quickly as possible, with the purpose of not affecting the work leading to the restoration of the electrical system throughout the Island, in accordance with the guidelines we have set."
González has been the director of Generation at PREPA since March of 2017.
He has also held various roles at the public utility, including operations manager at the Aguirre Steam Plant from 1998 to January 2012, and again from July 2012 until present; PREPA associate director from April to June of 2012; PREPA Planning and Environmental Protection director from January to April of 2012; Power Plant Daily Operation engineer from 1997 to 1998; Steam Plant Outage coordinator from 1995 to 1997; and shift engineer at the Aguirre Steam Plant from 1989 to 1995.
González is a licensed engineer and member of the Puerto Rico Engineering and Land Surveyors Board (CIAPR, per its Spanish acronym). He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus with a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
